Question Muffler Replacement

I need to replace the muffler in my 1977 911. Is this something I can do myself or is it best left to a shop? I don't have a torch or anything like that. Since it's my daily driver, can't have it out of service too long. It's just a standard single-out muffler, nothing special.

If it is in the realm of DIY, any special tips or tricks, or anything else to look out for?

Thanks for the guidance.

A pretty easy DIY project. Even if the bolts are rusted they are easy to get at to cut off.

The tech article discussed replacement of the whole system, however, the removal of the muffler part is relevant. As Kurt says, it is an easy job but the 3 bolts/nuts at the cat can be a real bear to get off. You might look at them first and see if they will come off without cutting. Soak in PB Blaster.
If they need to be cut, buy three new ones and check with a local muffler shop. They might cut off the old bolts and install the new ones for little or no cost. Then when you get your new muffler, you can do the install yourself.

I removed my muffler last summer and it wasn't difficult at all. Buy new gaskets, bolts and put copper anti-seize on the threads when you put it back on.

2nd Amen on the "soak it with PB blaster" before attempting. What muffler are you going with?

I was thinking of the stock OE muffler, I'm looking for quiet as it's now my daily driver.

What is the difference between with and without reactors?

On further inspection, looks like my sound irritation is from a bad muffler gasket, looks like I dodged a $500+ bullet here (sorry Wayne).

Any special specs for the bolts if I need to cut the old ones off and replace them?
