wheel bearing adjustment

Simple question, hopefully a simple answer. I need to adjust the slop out of my front right wheel bearing on my '85 911. Is there any trick, tool, or technique to popping off the dust cap without beating the crap out of it?

use a muffler clamp to gain some leverage.

I use a BFH tapping (or beating) on opposite sides until it loosens. You are not going to hurt the cap. It is heavy gauge steel and you won't dent it.

I use a piece of 1/2 inch brass rod, about 8 inches, and a hammer. A few taps while roating the hub and it's off. To adjust the slack, I use an allen in the screw and turn the hub to tighten it. Not too much force. Try it until you are comfortable that it is tight enough without being over tight. Don't overtighten the allen when you lock the nut, they do break!

I'm assuming this is a standard Carrerra, if not and has the M491 option then you will have the '930' crease cap on it. The 930 crease cap has A nipple with a treaded hole in it, the treads are for fitting 10MM bolt into. I went to the local Auato Zone and found they would load me a hammer pull. Found out what size the threaded part of the pull was and purchased a couple of Nuts that size. I welded the nut to the head end of the bolt. Screwed the mess on the hammer pull and after a few bad welds brok loose, finally god a good weld and 2 - 3 pulls later the dust cup was off. You can't use the same technique with the 930 because it recessed and there is no ridge overhang to catch onto.
I like building one-off tools, then throwing them in the tool chest so later I can say wth is this?
