2.7 to 3.0 conversion
 

Did a search but couldn't find the answer. I have a 2.7 w/TBitz EFI and would like to do a 3.0 w/EFI, other than the flywheel, the 3.0 dizzy, what else do I need to switch? Can I use the 2.7 CDI? The 3.0 dizzy has two vacuum connectors, how do you connect them? Any help would be welcomed.

You can't drive a 3-pin CDI with an SC disributor ... it is designed to drive a 6-pin CDI!

So, what are my options?

Get a 6-pin Bosch 0.227.300.004 CDI ... or Crane, Mallory, MSD.

Any specific Crane, Mallory or MSD if I go that route?

EP - Crane or MSD work well. You will need the CDI unit and the matching coils. The problem becomes the interface between the two. Typcially you would connect your wires to the factory connector for the 6 pin CDI unit. There is a green Coax cable the goes from the dist to the Bosch CDI. This carries the signal for the pickup. The connector on the wiring harness is the male side of a Bosch (injector) connector.

the best option is to get the CDI section of a 78 or later engine wiring harness. This will have all the connectors you need. Hopefully it will come with the 3.0 you are buying. If so, everything is easy.

You will likely have to swap a few pins in the 14 pin connector in the engine harness. This should take only about 10 minutes during the conversion. I am sure the pinout diagram is in the archives if you do a search.

Thanks. I have the complete harness. I was just wondering if it would be better to get an SC CDI. If I did that, will I have to swap pins on the 14 pin?
