Engine Oil Cooler Removal - Should I?
I may have asked this before, so apologies in advance if I have.
Engine is out of my 84 Targa. I am trying to take care of all oil leaks. I have the new seals for the engine oil cooler, but I can't really tell if it is leaking. If I remove it and replace the two seals, am I asking for trouble? Will it potemtially leak? Or is it one of those easy-peasy jobs? Thanks so much.

If the engine is already out, it's 4 bolts and 3 seals to replace. Just make sure the mating surface around the seals is clean and you'll be good to go.

X2, check for cracks where the cooler bolts to the case. I've seen pics of a couple 3.0s with cracks that originally looked like cooler seal issues. Don't over torque the nuts either.

3 new seals and pressure test it while it's off.

Pressure test for sure while it's off. Most of my leak turned out to be a very small leak in the cooler itself - It gradually lost pressure over 8 hous.

Probably not a bad idea to get it pressure tested while it's out. I think I paid $130 for mine.

It gets pressure tested every time you drive it. If it's not leaking then it passes the pressure test. Good plan to replace the seals.
