Speaker not working
 

1986 930. I replaced the factory radio with an after market this weekend, the dr side front speaker was not working and before, and it is still not working after. (I was hoping the problem was the radio). All other speakers (both rear and pass side frt) work fine. Verified stereo and dr side speaker are good. I'm guessing it is in the Frt/Rear Fader which is located in the console, but I am not sure how to get it out? Anyone experienced this?

It appears that the stereo sends a signal for left and right channel, then the fader splits it up to Frt/Rear, as there are only a left and right pair of wires to hook up to the stereo.

Was there an additonal factory amp installed in this car?

I haven't run across this exact issue. But is there a reason you'd want to keep your fader? If not, why don't you just run new speaker wires to your door speakers from your head unit. Use the old wire to pull the new stuff through. Easy as pie. Then hook it up to your head unit or amp if you have one and your set.

Otherwise, you can remove the cover off the back of the console and you should be able to get to the back of the fader switch.

There was not a OEM stereo amp AFAIK.

Check under the drivers side seat. You may have the upgraded stereo system for the time. However, your problem is most likely a broken speaker wire at the body/door. The wire fatigues and eventually breaks. (as this door is opened more than the passenger side). Note that the grounding system is ass backward to an American system. Cut the fader out and splice in new wires.

You will have to pull your speaker and fish 2 new wires up into the foot well. They will be brown/Brown striped. I had the exact same problem with my car.

Thanks, I'd rather adjust the valves then "fish" new speaker wire thru the doors and into the car!! I hate messing with this stuff. I guess I'll bite the bullet and just do it. Thanks for all the replies...

If you tape your new wires to the old ones as you pull them out you'll pull the new wire through. It really is an easy job.

Yea, I know. But when I was looking at the wire "sheath" coming out of the door and going into the body of the car it seems to have a couple of bends, and that just kind of stuck in my mind. I'll get access to the fader and go from there....
