Some very oily issues....
Hiya folks,
I'm having some oil-related issues I wanted to run by everyone. I'm having a hard time tracking down some leaks and spatters, and I need some help identifying what to do with some breather lines. first of all...I've got this weird pattern of oil leaks. I finally fired the car (1st time in 4 months) over the weekend. It idled for about 15 minutes and left this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173137597.jpg So that's part 1. I think I can solve (by reading the archives...) this by giving the engine a good degreasing, and using some oil dye and a black light. So, consider that on the list of things to do. I have two other issues...the first is related to the oil spatter. If you'll see by the pic, my MSD ignition (mounted on the firewall) is *soaked* in oil. Where might that be coming from? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173137687.jpg Finally, I have switched to a later model oil tank, with the baffles, in my Project 69'er. I have some questions on where these breathers need to be connected, or what I should do with them? Can I cap them somehow? Should I? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1173137801.jpg so...that's where I am. Thanks to all for any thoughts. |
I know on my 73 the 2 large tubes on the oil tank go to the #1-airbox and #2 crank case .... I dont have the small tube on my oil tank on my 73 so I dont know where that one goes.

i think I've got both of those covered, but I'm not sure. Again, this is a 69T with a later model tank.
Thanks Herman! |
Oil pressure gauge or warning lamp???
The oil spray on MSD and shock washer could be coming from oil pressure sender or switch ... in vicinity of thermostat. Not too unusual to find a leaking sender! |
I would check your case breather area. This can cause quite a mess if not connected properly. Dye and black light is a good choice.

@ Early_S_Man:
Oil pressure gauge and warning lamp check out ok. @ lusso: I would say that's highly possible. I had forgotten to attach it before I put the motor in, and I had to do it with a partial engine drop. It might not be on tight enough. That would be a good, simple (though a pain to get to) solution. |
Ok...not the hottest topic on Pelican I see. I'll look into these suggestions first and get back to it.
