oxygen sensor relay ??????

During one of my "while I'm in there" search,s through the Pelican on line catalog, I spied a part called an oxygen sensor relay
part # 821-951-253-m14. Yep, I probably need one of those and dutifly ordered and received said item. Now does anyone know
where the hell it goes? I called Pelican they didn't have a drawing of its placement or any other source I have access to. DOES ANYONE ONE REALLY KNOW WHERE THIS WOULD GO ON AN 87
CARRERA CABRIOLET ????

THANKS

DME relay under the seat?

rick-l 03-07-2007 10:06 AM

Maybe it is a turbo part (CIS - Lambda controller) that the PET mistakenly labeled as a Carrera part.

JB Weld it to the manifold...

How about the fuse box:

****EDIT: OOOPS, this came out of the PET for 84-86. I don't know if '87 is the same or not. Read your post too fast.

Edit, edit: I think they are all the same according to your part number.

There is no "oxygen sensor" relay for a Carrera. The "DME" relay for a Carrera 1984 - 1989 (part# 911 618 154 00) is the one you want to have a spare of. The part # you listed above is for a 1980 -1983 911SC only. The DME relay for your car is located under the driver's seat. The 911SC oxygen sensor relay is located under the passenger seat. I hope this clarifies things for you.

I double checked the PET Catalog I downloaded from Porsche and it's in there for the '84-'86 AND the '87-'89. It isn't real clear if it goes in the Front Fuse box, under the seat, or the rear. Cause it's just kinda hangin' out there in the middle of the page. But the pic I posted above was the same for '84-'89.

I don't want to start an argument, but IT IS in both of those .pdf's right from Porsche's web page. Maybe this relay IS the same as the DME relay, but I doubt it. Especially, since PP has the DME relay at $30 bucks and this O2 sensor relay is $13 bucks. Maybe I'm wrong, and there isn't such a thing, so be it. At least I'll learn something from this thread. I'm curious as to what comes of this........

Educate me here for a minute. I don't own a turbo but wish I did. This is just what I've heard.

Were all the 84-89 turbos CIS Lambda systems? Would that account for some of the strange parts?

wcc 03-07-2007 11:53 AM

That is correct. 930's do have the CIS Lambda System. But according to the page in the PET it doesn't say 930 specific to that part like it does other parts. That's why my confusion. It says it's for the Carrera.

Forgot the pic...

Well, Well ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Well. I guess I don't have to a least suffer
from the "its OK he's from Kansas syndrom" . If ANYONE COMES UP WITH SOMETHING BEFORE I GET THE JB WELD OUT PLEASE POST.

Why did you think that you needed it?

sjf911 03-07-2007 02:32 PM

It is in the PET but it is not in the wiring diagram in Bentley.

kepperly 03-07-2007 06:57 PM

Mr. Garfield, with over 1200 posts and you never had the "while I'm in there syndrom". I want to buy some of YOUR ANTI-VENOM.

:D I was just curious if you were having a problem that seemed to be related to the OSR. I am also afflicted with the deadly "wIits", but I try to restrain myself to replacing bits that will be hard to get at later or parts with a bad reputation. (cough)I'm not always sucessful at restraining myself though(cough).

kepperly 03-08-2007 07:11 PM

I am in the middle of my 87 carrera's Half/Life (89k mi.) rebuild
and didn,t want any problems with parts that would be hard to get to once the motor was back in. When I came across the ox sensor relay at $13.00 bucks it was a no brainer to me. Now I don,t want to send it back, but damned if I can find a place for it without the j/b weld. It is listed for my car in PET and Pelican but no one knows where it goes.
