911 suspension question

Hello-
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to go on suspension for my 1976 911. It has a 935 body kit on it so the rear is super wide. The suspension is for a regular 911. Do I leave the suspension alone and buy deep dish wheels or put in a different setup? The body shop is disassembling everything so if I'm going to make a change this would be a good time to do it. I am planning on a 3.2 motor and 915 trans. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Roger

By moving the wheels outward you are making a major change to the dynamics of the suspension. There are a number of reasons that Porsche changed the suspension on the 935. One of the reasons is that by changing the location of the center of the tires contact patch you need to change the suspension just to get the way it acts to stay the same.

A simple example is spring rate at the wheel or what is called wheel rate. By pushing the tire farther out you are lengthening the lever action of the suspension link. This reduces the wheel rate of the springs. By doing nothing more then spacing the wheels outward it will actually lower the rear of the car!

So, Yes! Change that rear suspension.

Oh, and a good step in that direction would be the turbo rear banana arms and moving the inner mounting point with one of the standard weld in kits.

I would probably pick up a phone and call Dave at TRE, Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems, or Smart Racing Products/Jerry Woods.
