Electrical problem! any advice?

When somebody was trying to start my 1980 911 with low battery they connected the leads from an outside battery to the opposite polarity on the car battery. That did it - starting motor does not run any more.
Can someone tell me what can have been burnt - ruined - or whatever.
Thank you for any help.

Could have shorted the coil relay for the starter. Or, it could be a blown fuse. You will have to start with a meter to track down the
problem.

I agree with Ron, and hope that the ignition switch was turned off when the fireworks ocurred!

If you have a factory alarm system with keyswitch in the drivers' door ... it may have been blown, even with ignition off. It will probably need to be removed and bypassed, as they usually disable starting.

Yea, pumping up to 100A (rated) between the batteries could cause a bit of a problem. Last person I knew that did this it blew up in his face.

It probably fried the weakest cell in the low battery.

But he had magnetic fields to contain and direct the energy... i doubt it was used in this case.
