Speed Sensor Gap, Bentley Typo
 

On page 200-5 Bentley has a gap of the speed sensor of .8mm and on page 280-14 it has a gap of .08mm.

1)First off what is it supposed to be? .8mm?

2)What would happen if it IS set to .08mm?

3)This really kinda makes me mad cause my engine was just out and I gapped my Speed Sensor at the .08mm. The car starts better, but I'm wondering now if it's going to cause me problems long term. How would it affect the timing, advance or mixture? Any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't think it would make a big difference between the two, but correct me if I'm wrong.

the correct spec is 0.8&#177 0.2mm

they are relatively insensistive to variation

A 3.2 Carrera has 2 separate senders, DME 2.1 up has only 1 superimposed signal

I know on the 944 series they are quite sensitive to the gap, but that DME looks for a different looking wave form from them.

Yes that is a misprint in the Bentley.

If the gap is off and the speed sensor is to close to the flywheel, you will get a major misfire that acts like a rev limiter. Ask me how I know!!!

But if you are not experiencing any misfiring, I think your gapping was done correctly. And isn't 0.08mm paper-thin... near impossible to achieve anyway?

Never had cause to deal w/ them on Carreras, but on 3.6 the engines run well w/ an incredibly wide range of gaps and alignments.

I don't have any misfiring, but I do have some backfiring on downshifting that I've been looking for. Also, it runs better without the 02 sensor now. I'm wondering if the speed sensor was gapped correctly it would correct the timing so I can put back the 02 sensor. But since there wasn't an issue before the adjustment, so I thought it might be that. Are these issues related or not?

But if I'm getting the proper voltage range at the sensor it should be ok, regardless of the spec? Because I'm CLEARLY not within spec at .8 +/- .2mm. I couldn't get it exactly at .08, cause a .1mm would slide in there. So my gap is really about .1mm.
