Lowered front end

My car sits lower in the front than the rear. It has obviously been lowered as I sold my stock 76S to my neighbor (brave of me, huh?) ANYWAY, I have read that there is a metal bushing on top of the struts that should be removed for better shock travel. I looked at my car tonight and there are in fact TWO washers (thin) that sandwich a rubber (thick) bushing. Is this to be removed? The discribed assembly is about an inch or an inch 1/2 thick.
Do I need to do something here???

This is just a shameless way getting my topic back in running... http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif

Don,

I guess I don't understand your question. Bruce Anderson is the only person that I recall ever mentioning the spacer, and it didn't match your description! He said it was 10 mm thick, and that it made a good paperweight.

If you want to remove that 'collection' on top of your strut dust cover, then just remove 'it' or them!

As far as lowering/raising your front end ... a couple of minutes with an 11 mm wrench takes care of that on the front adjusters!

Is there anything at the top of a strut once the car has been lowered, or does it simply bolt to the fender with no washers etc...

Forgive my ignorance as I was educated in Tennessee...

No, there is nothing between the dust cover and the adjustable mount (with the three M10 Allen bolts) that the strut rod bolts to!

Hey, it's probably my ignorance but are you guys talking about the same thing? It looks like Warren is talking about parts under the dust cover in the trunk. Don seems to be talking about whatever is at the top of the strut, in the wheel well.

Don, I have not removed a Porsche strut, but struts do have stuff between the strut and the car chassis. Typically there is a 'tower bearing' which allows movement of the strut. There may be washers in there too.

But Warren is describing the correct, and incredibly simple way you lower or raise the front of a 911. One 11mm nut on each side, under the car!!

Well, I WAS taliking about the underside of the tower bearing, since the underside of that is where the spacer abuts against! And, between the strut with its' threaded rod sticking out, there is usually some kind of hard plastic anti-wicking washer, the accordion rubber bump stop, and the dust cover ... then you encounter the underside of the tower bearing, or more precisely, the steel bushing to poke the threaded strut rod through!
