Grocery run
 

Well, I am in the doghouse. My wife was going to the library a moment ago and I asked if I could tag along. A good excuse to get the 911 out. First day of sunshine in about a week down here. Well, we did the library thing and as I pulled out of the parking lot she said, now let's stop by the grocery and pick up some cottage cheese. Maybe I over reacted a little bit at the suggestion of parking the 911 in the local grocery parking lot (visions of out of control shopping carts and such). Anyway, I can't seem to explain that the Porsche is not just a car. Any thoughts here?

Its kinda funny you mention that..now all my friends know that I do not park my car in public places I have already been through the "why did you buy a car you wont take anywhere"..it seems that whereever you go and park your car if its out in the boonies a POS will park right next to you. I dont take my 911 to stores either its a pleasure car.

I park my car in mall parking lots, grocery store parking lots, and even downtown where a lot of undesireable elements exist.

I've been doordinged once. No shopping carts, no stolen car. Maybe I'm pushing my luck, but I bought the car to drive it, not stare at it in my driveway. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

Park uphill from carts. Pick end spaces in parking lots. Don't be too lazy to walk a few hundred yards. I take my car everywhere - even 1000 mile jaunts to visit my brother - but I'm thoughtful about where to park.

The less you worry, the more you'll enjoy the car. That's kind of the point, isn't it?

Tell the misses that if your 911 is even seen in a grocery store parking lot you could loose your PCA membership!I use that for all types of places that the other gender would otherwise endlessly have me running around in instead of "RUNNING"!!!! Phil 83SC

Park carefully. Stay in the car while your wife runs in . I watched a woman in an Accord run into the back bumper of a 84 carrera in a lot while i was checking out the car > I said " you know you just hit this car" and she was totally oblivious . Thanks to my intervention she did leave her number and I left her plate number, model and make on the windshield. Just another good deed for an old Boy Scout and current Porsche protector!!!!!

I guess i am a lucky guy,no wife or the kids allowed in the car,park on the garage with a car cover,not allow to pick under,leave the garage door open,and stay 4 feet away,never park in public places,don't drive in the rainand the list goes on,so for me the only thing that i can't do is have sex with my car but.... often i find my self in the garage looking at the 4' pipe.... my .2 cents

I take my car everywhere, luckily my girlfriend understands the reasons I park my car 250 yrds from the grocery store or restaurant and haven't had a ding or scratch yet

Unless you encase your car in a plastic bubble things can happen to it, chips from rocks, dings etc, if it happens I'll fix it I bought my car to enjoy not cause more stress in my life

My car goes everywhere I go. I try to find safe parking spaces and all that, but I enjoy my car by driving her. I accept the dings, rock chips, broken headlight and foglight glass, etc. The car's still in better shape than I am (surprise face here). I would enjoy her less, and be more anxious about her, if she were a Garage Queen.

Nevertheless, I understand and respect those with very pristine cars. Heck, these cars have show-quality paint jobs on them, as Warren contrasted in the Corvette thread. Some cars are concourse d'Elegance, and some are wash-n-wear. Mine's a beautiful example of the latter.

I drive the S pretty much everywhere.
I do try to put some distance either side which I do anyway with all other cars I drive. I figure any cosmetic dings can be taken care of when I restore the car fully.
I do have a very understanding woman though. She respects my feelings for "my hobby" as she calls it, even if at times I know she doesn't quite understand!
Oh yeah, I like to stare at her more than the tailpipe as she is a stunning woman. Just teasin Juan, you have a cool car!

I drive and park my car about everywhere.
I've been swiped a couple of times. A week ago I noticed smeared rubber on my front bumper. Some ******* must have contacted it with his bumper.
But I buffed it out and she's back to normal. I'm exactly like Mark in this regard: I bought it and invest money into it to drive it....it's really hard for me to get into my girl's Mazda Tribute...
Still, I DO. (that sucker has 200 hp, and 200 torque...she's lives up to the power, but I always feel like I'm going to fly off the road when I punch it).
Something about all that HP up front that makes such a car really unmanageable to me, but I digress..

Kinda irrelevant, but this past weekend when I had an informal meeting with our local PCS president he let me sit in his black '97(?) 993 Carrera S. As soon as I sat in it I realized why if I had this car I wouldn't drive it, just leave it in the garage and drive something else! No way would I drive a perfect car into shopping centers, supermarkets, or the like. Jeff, that was my exact response to my wife yesterday when she suggested we stop by the grocery. She didnt mention the grocery when we left for the library. And when I balked at the idea, my automatic response was...."if I had known we were making a grocery run we would have driven the Volvo". I mean, Volvos are designed for parking lots. They wear their door dings like a badge of honor. I mean it makes sense to bash a Volvo. Let's look at it this way, It is a chore to put a coat of wax on the Volvo, but it is an act of love to wax the 911. Nuff said.

I drive and park mine anywhere and everywhere. Yesterday I had to squeeze into a real tight spot so I took advantage of the icy road and used my emergency break and came within a few inches of the car in front of me. I enjoy driving my 911 more than looking at it. Mine is currently ding-free, but even with a few dings, the 911 is way better looking than other cars.
