Who has replaced their original 911SC clutch?
Here is the big question? If you have replaced the original clutch from your 17-year old SC please let me know what your experience was with this, especially with the removal of the flywheel bolts after all this time. I'm worried about the problems I may encounter. Second question: I know to replace the O ring for the pressure switch and thermostat, however, should I also replace the top and bottom seals for the engine oil cooler and how complicated is this with the engine out? Thanks in advance to all.

With the engine out all this is a snap. There are several things you should do, or look at. First of all, yes on the oil cooler seals, there are three. Replace them now, and coat them thinly with Dow Corning 111. In fact, coat every o-ring or other rubber seal with a thin coat of Dow Corning 111.
There are some rubbers sleeves connecting the air box with the intake runners. They are about 3" long and wide. Do they look 'puffy?' If so, replace them now. Also replace the injector o-rings. The injector just pulls straight out. Be careful, but pull hard. If the inside of the plastic injector holder does not have a female hex pattern, then e-mail me. If the inside of those injector holders are round, do it, e-mail me. My car had its first clutch when it was very young, within a year or two of birth. I just replaced the one that was put in 16 years ago. No special problems. the tool that fits the flywheel bolts is special. There is another tool taht seems to fit but has the wrong shape, actually. So just be sure your tool is the right one. A flywheel lock will help. Apparently you can resurface the flywheel slightly, so make sure that surface is ready to go. A little white lithium, grease on the release guide tube. Be sure to mate up the release fork properly with the release bearing. It grabs the bearing on its outer edge. Beware if the German clutch backwardness phenomenon (the release forks PULL the release bearing!!!) Go figure. Have fun. Deal with all those rubber things while the engine is out! I'm in the midst of rebuilding my 83 SC. I had absolutely no trouble getting my flywheel bolts off. You do need a specialized attachment that's not too cheap ($25 or so). If you have trouble getting yours off try renting an electric impact wrench. I used one for a lot of tough bolts for $20 for a day.
