Troubleshooting Frequency Valve & relay

When I bought my 82 SC, the mechanic I had check it out said the frequency valve was not working, causing it to run lean. He said that it is on the front of the engine, and that the engine must be patrially dropped to get to it. He also said that often the problem is a relay under the seat.

I have the Haynes manual, and it explains how to test the valve, but I can find no mention of the relay. Looking under the passenger seat, I see the big fuel injection box, and what appears to be a small relay zip-tied to the floor.

Is the relay he is talking about, and if so, does anyone know how to test it?

Thanks in advance,

Check out the multipin (12 or 14) electrical connector for the FI system. I did that on mine, and the freq vavle started working again.

I am not as suspicious of your frequency valve, though it may be causing trouble. I'd agree with my buddies that cleaning connections is a good first step.

You might want to check your mixture. Look at http://www.rpm.com.au/911/html/tech_f.html
