Paint question for the experts
Hi i have a 1969 911t coupe and i was wondering if it is the original paint. Me and my buddy who paints cars says it looks like a one coat paint with no clear. Is this the type of paint porsche uses or do they use a clear coat type paint on these early cars? Also i was wondering if i could get a paint code for the porsche white. Its just a regular white any help would be great!!

If the car is a non-metallic, it certainly would NOT have come with clear coat from the factory in 1969.
You can easily test if your car has clear or not. Since it's white, take a black or dark colored towel, some regular off the shelf cleaner/wax, and polish out a small section. If get white paint on the towel, no clear. |

I think for 69 "Light Ivory" was paint no. 6804, paint code 131. But you'd want to verify that. Any paint shop should be able to look it up for you.
Of course the paint could be original. Most '69s probably aren't lucky enough to still be surviving with original paint, but yours could be. Usually if it has been repainted, there is a sign of it *somewhere* on the car. A little bit of overspray, or the way the paint sits in the jambs or the fuel filler area, etc. Usually you can find something that gives the repaint away if you look really closely. If the car was repainted in the 70s or 80s, it likely would have been done with non-clearcoat. |
