I did this conversion a few years back when I was working as a mechanic. It was on a 1970 T also. It is possible.
You will need a transmission (of course), flywheel, all the clutch components, including the cable, actuation levers and springs, and a new pedal assembly in the footwell with a different brake pedal and a clutch pedal. The tubing for the clutch cable is there on all cars. You will also need shift linkage (ie a new stick and linkage). And, if I can remember right, I had to move the linkage for the accelerator. I could be wrong though. You also will need to make a few vacuum line alterations as (again if I remember right) the Sportmatic trans. has a huge vacuum bell on it which is how it works. This needs to be plugged off, etc. Unfortunately I dont recall the cost, but labor was a good bit of it. If you are doing it yourself, I would say it may not be too bad. I would get all used parts (except for clutch, clutch cable and helper springs), and consider rebuilding the trans before installation so that you dont have to worry about taking it out later. I do remember that it worked very well once it was done. I can, however, give you some places that can get the parts and prices for you: Carquip (CO): www.carquip.com Highly Recommended, Ask for Roger. Parts Heaven (CA): www.partsheaven.com 20th St. Auto (AZ): www.20thstreetauto.com Best of luck! ------------------ __________ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe [This message has been edited by Nickshu (edited 12-30-2000).] |

what about the oil system for the sportomatic. there seems to be some kind of oil pump coming from the left cam housing. Does this just need plugged or does it remain.
