'79 911 SC - Converting R12 to R134A
 

I'm in the process of replacing the A/C condenser (Rear) and the Receiver Dryer Bottle on my 1979 911 SC. How difficult and what would it take to switch from R12 to R134A. Thanks for your help!

Seems like the consensus is to stay w/ the R12 as long as it is still available. Albiet expensive it is still available. It cools more effeciently and you don't have to replace all of the semi-permeable rubber tubing. You're on the right track with the replacement of the dryer too.
The decision about which compressor to choose is another problem. Currently it seems that either the Seiko or the Kuehl are the best upgrades. Bob Tindel replaced the compressor in his 83SC with a Seiko and has written an article about it in the Tech section available from Pel. Prts.
Although the kit doesn't yet seem available, I'm sure with enuf requests,it will be available shortly from Pelican.I think if we make our needs known, Pelican will be more than happy to accomodate our requests.
You may want to call Performance Aire in Anaheim CA, they are very knowldegeable. Griffiths, who also advertises in Pando,has some definite opinions regarding Nippondenso and Sanden, 800-451-7225.
