Muffler Modification and O2 Sensor
 

Hi all,
Just picked up some pre-74 heat exchangers (like SSI's w/o the high price) and had a couple of questions for y'all about the muffler.

I'm considering going with the stock pre-74 dual-in, single-out (left side) muffler.
Has anyone ever, or ever heard of, someone cutting a hole in the right side and cutting off the left side tailpipe and welding on a couple of 3 or 4" stainless tips? This would create (at least in looks) the dual exhaust similar to what is seen in the $800+ mufflers that are out of my price range right now. Are these tips available? Does this work?

Also, on the SSI's or the like, where is the o2 sensor port located? I need to cut and add one to these pre-74's so that I can put my sensor on them.

I gave a suggedtion in the following thread:

But, to elaborate, it would be possible to adapt your existing mufller to the early heat exchangers. All that is needed is a pair of two-bolt flanges for 2" tubing, and a short 1' section of 2" tubing. Your O2 sensor could be installed into a weldnut or flange in the left inlet of your 'modified' muffler.

I would suggest testing the car with the single outlet, as it will probably be louder from 4000 rpm upwards! Then, you could proceed with putting an enlarged outlet on the left side if you want still more power and noise. Then, test your car again, as some have complained about dual-outlet sport mufflers being too loud, specifically the dual 4" models!!

Are such flanges analagous to the flanges on the exchangers?
Are these readily available at a Midas or other such muffler shop, or should I look elsewhere for the parts?
Modifying my existing muffler is an option that is appealing to me.
Are the pre-74 mufflers the same internally as the stock one on my SC?
