New Sportomatic Problem
I was out for a perfect drive yesterday when my 74 Spotro decided to stop shifting. All of the sudden it went from flawless to unshiftable, I am unable to put her into any gear at all. It will go into gear when the car is off no problem but grinds every one of them when the car is running. I first though it was the microswitch on the shifter as I have dealt with that before. I basically rebuilt that on the spot, checked the wires and sensors without any success. At this point I believe it is electronic, simply because it just stopped working. Should I be looking at a fuse or something and if so, where??? All help is appreciated!!!!!!

You’re on the right track check the switch first. Also check all vacuum lines, pull off the one to the reservoir and see if it's holding vacuum. One cracked vacuum hose will shut down the whole system.
If you have a helper get the car up on stands and reach up to the servo while some one moves the shifter to see if it's moving. If it is moving make sure it's attached to the clutch arm. If it does not move either it's a vacuum issue or a switch issue. Not sure about fuses on a 74, I think there in the engine bay in a block of three and it's the bottom fuse again I am not positive.

Thanks,
B D, I was reading a little on your past experiences with this issue. Everyone always comments on the microswitch and that is fine, my question is where does that brown wire on the microswitch end up? |

There are two brown wires one is grounded to the shifter and the other runs to the engine compartment to a valve that controls the vacuum. That valve on a carbed car is located off the drivers side intake manifold, or follow the vacuum lines to find it.
