Early S car Ignition upgrade?
I have been toying w/ the idea of upgrading my ignition system to a Permatune or other like system. My car is a 1968 S. What are the advantages and disadvantages? There seem to be an awful lot of choices out there. Would someone be so kind as to steer me in the right direction. Thanks

This topic has lots of coverage. Click on "SEARCH" then type in "MSD ignition" you'll get a lot of stuff. Then try "Crane ignition", "permatune " etc You'll be an expert! :-))
I put a MSD 6AL on mine and love it! Good Luck, Ernie |

CM,
How about a factory '69-'77 Bosch CDI-unit and coil? Contrary to the advertising hype, there is no power to be gained by going to expensive MSD or Jacobs products! I have seen used Bosch CDI-units go for $60 on eBay! The wiring changes will not take more than two hours, maximum, and can be done just from the color schematic here at Pelican for the 73.5 'T' model: http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/Electrical/911_electrical_1973_CIS_Part2.jpg So, do your self a favor and don't buy into the 'upgrade syndrome' and spend a bunch of cubic $$$ on something not even 1 hp better than what the factory used from '69-'77! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
