Torque steer
My 1986 911 steers to the left under moderate acceleration. I have checked tire inflation, brakes, etc. and all seems to be OK. Anyone have any thoughts? I am stumped.

After checking all the suspension bushings and wheel bearings, you might check the motor and trans mounts. Mine was torque steering on me because the motor mounts were dead and allowing the engine and trans to twist, making the axles work at weird angles. (I assume) It seemed strange to me but it fixed it. Made shifting more precise and seemed to stiffen the car up as well. Just a thought. It sounds like my symptoms exactly, so I thought I'd share.

Tyson,
Thanks, I have checked all the other areas, but not the motor mounts. I'll check it out. The car has only 43,000 miles on it, but it is 14 years old - I assume the mounts can get brittle. Does anyone else have any experience with this problem? How do I check the rear end allignment? Thanks everyone!! Paul ------------------ 1984 911 Targa 1986 911 Coupe |

It does sound like you have a rear alignment problem. I highly recommend a 4 wheel alignment at a shop that is experienced with 911s.
