Switching 2.7L to 3.0L

What is involved with swiching a 2.7L to a 3.0L in a 1974 911? Any additional parts or modifications needed?

If you are doing a transplant, why wouldn't you consider a 3.2 or 3.3 or 3.6?

Just curiouse...

one good reason is the larger engines requires a lot more modification

I am doing the same conv to my 77911. You will need the cd unit as the 3 liter is a 6 pin connector the 2.7 is three. The clutch has a heaver presure plate but I think the 2.7 preasure plate will work with the new 3.0. you will need to change the torsion bars in the rear to a larger diameter. The 14 pin connecter needs to be rewired that is were I am currently on my project. You will need to change the fuel pump as well the 3.0 needs more flow. the fuel filter and accum seem to be the same. I have found several good articals in the up-fixin der porsche manuals from PCA. I ended up with the whole set. My moter came with the CIS complete that is why the fuel pump upgrade. You did not say what induction sytem you are going to use. keep me up to date on your project and I will do the same on mine if you like hopefully we can streamline the process. Good Luck

I just read an artical that details the swap you are considering. it is in the dec 1984 Panorama by Fred Schroeder. He installed a 3 liter motor in a 1974 911s. It details just about everything incl wiring updates between engine and chassis. The artical is also reprinted in vol 7 of Up-fixin Der Porsche from PCA. You should get a copy of this artical.
