Changing the crank on a 3.0L

Excuse my novice knowledge of engines, but my alignment guy (a seasoned porsche guy) said he changed the crank of his 3.0 to a 3.2L crank.

What does this do exactly?

He did not change cyl or heads or pistons, just the crank.

does this change the comp ratio, the displacement or both?

He loves the change and I am pondering this for my 3.0L

Anyone have any idea what the numbers for torque and hp would be?

Well, the last time the factory bumped the displacement up by 200 cc without changing the induction system drastically was 1970, and the resulting increase for the 'T' engine, which was cammed similar to yours, was 15 DIN hp and 14.6 lb-ft of torque.

One important note, though, you do have to change both crackshaft, and the rods as well! So, be sure to keep that in mind when looking for parts!

If you replace the 3.0 crank with a 3.2 you are only changing the stroke, it will be now a "long stroke" compared to the 3.0 "short stroke". The longer stroke will give you more torque, but the shorter stroke will give you more bottom end. We actually have done BOTH changes, we have had some owners go from 3.2 to 3.0 and other 3.0 to 3.2. I myself enjoy the shorter stroke motors, for letting the motor spool up faster and the 3.0 crank and rods have less problems then the 3.2's have. I would suggest do others mods then this.

Also the 3.0 pistons will NOT work with the 3.2 crank because of the piston pin height, they will stick out of the cylinders, also the piston pins are 22mm while the 3.2's are 23mm.

He must be pulling your leg or he maybe not wanting you to know exactly what he did for mods?

Good luck

Hmmm...thanks for the replies.

I do not think he is pulling my leg though.
He is pretty seasoned guy (it is actually Steve at Johnson's alignment in Torrance)

Maybe I misunderstood him.
I will try to get the specifics from him next time I see him

Oh and he has the euro CIS on the car.
Thanks
