Oil tank placement

How critical is oil tank placement in relation to the engine? Is there a concern if the tank is too high that too much oil could drain into the engine when the engine is secured?

I doubt if you could cause a problem ... afterall, the '72 oil tank was higher and never had a problem! The 'myth' that oil runs back into the sump from the tank is rather ludicrous, as the only place it can go from the pressure pump is to bearings, rockers, squirters, or the relief/safety valves ... and those represent quite a restricted path for oil under only a couple of psi to get past!

thanks for the reply Warren, now that I have your attention. What about that 69 diff. in a 71 Transmission?
