Hey guys. My whaletail has a crack approx 12 inches going horizontal along the lip. Do you guys know is this a common problem? My body shop wants $550 to fix it.

Fiberglass repair is an easy fix! Any auto supply or marine repair, Boat US, West marine, will have the stuff you need. Do you have any idea as to what caused the crack?

Dont know what caused the crack, I figure it goes through alot of stress with the tight suspension and fast speeds. Ive thought about just buying a new one but then I still have to have it painted to match my car which will cost even more. I'll post pics when I get a chance. Right now, I put heavy duty glue on the inside to hopefully prevent it from further cracking.

Someone probably leaned on it at Red Lobster. Someone always leans on the Porsche's at Red Lobster.

Kidding aside,
Take the tail off and de-trim, drill a hole twice the diameter of the crack at each end of the split to stop the spread. Reinforce it from the back side (scuff and sand fist). V-out the crack so no raised edge remains. Prep the outer surface and repair / fill with structural adhesive. If you have ever worked with fillers its an easy DIY repair. A few more steps here and there but for the most part easy fix.

To test the repaired area for strength. Reinstall tail and leave parked at the Red Lobster for the day by the front door.

Thanks Jeff, I'll give it a shot. I could save some money doing it myself. I never go to Red Lobster, maybe I should so i can catch the culprit!!

You can get crabs from the wrong tail at Red Lobster!

Not my experience, but a friend of mine's, honest!

It's a good thing I don't eat at Red Lobster then!
