Hi, could some one with the apropriate refrences please give me the particulars on this transmission part number? 901.301.101.2R. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, Bruce, but that casting number does not translate directly to a part number that can be crossreferenced! But, my parts catalog doesn't have any 901/911 transaxle pics in it, anyway.

And, about that differential, the '69-'71 spec book does not have any differences in the ring gear setup page! Presumably, that means no changes over the '69-'71 span of the change to go to the pull-type pressure plate for the 2.2's ... the linkage changes for the 2.2 clutches is the only real change that warranted the designation change to the type '911' transaxle!

Thanks Warren, How can I determine what the gear sets are in there?

Look for the Sreial Number and 'Type Number' on or near the bottom rib ... 901/xx or 911/xx, where the xx will be listed in the spec book with ratios equipped from the factory. That is, except for custom ordered gearboxes designated by a special prefix code in the serial number!

That would be a four-speed, standard ratios, for a '69 912 ... the ratios, for a 902/14, from my service manual chart are: 1st -- 11:34 (3.091:1), 2nd -- 19:32 (1.684:1), 3rd -- 24:27 (1.125:1), 4th -- 28:24 (0.857:1)

912 and 911 transmissions are basicaly the same thing correct? The differential from this 4 speed should work in the 5 speed correct?

Bruce,

Yes, on both counts ... originally, the 912's were only going to have four speeds, and a special version or the 901 was developed and named the 902. But then the planners and bean counters got together when the cost-reduced 911T was built, and there have been 902 transaxles used in 911's and 901's used in 912's. Confusing!!!
