I has a simular problem. The two pieces were once one piece bonded together. I finally had to purchase a new rubber moulding.
I tried superglue and it held for a while.

Cordts,

I had a similar problem on my 70S. My gap was not nearly as wide, perhaps .25 inch, but it appeared that as the rubber aged, it shrank. I finally resorted to filling with black silicone--not perfect but not noticable, since I don't enter concours events! Your space is far too big for the silicone treatment. If my suspicions are right, a new trim piece will eventually shrink, leaving you with another gap so I suggest that you keep the old piece after you've replaced it w/a new one. Then, should the "new" one shrink, creating a similar gap in the future, you could cut out a "filler" piece from your old trim.

Phil
