SC Heater puzzle

I am not getting good air flow with the heater on the passenger side wheel well and
windshield outlets. Nor a problem for me but for passengers. The fresh air blower provides air to both locations. I have a new properly connected hose between the heat exchanger and the Valve which opens and shuts properly. The heat exchanger appears to be in good condition oralthough you can move it slightly with your hand
Any thoughts about causes or solutions.

BTW thank God for this site during the winter doldrums, my home site (Potomac Pca) is dead in the water!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you check both sides? Your post made it sound like you only checked one. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Check the flow control/direction unit in the front trunk. It's that gourd shaped black thing with the air hoses connected and it has the cables and levers that are activated by your slide levers. Perhaps there is a loose connection or a perforated hose. Who knows? These heat systems are something Rube Goldberg would have been proud of.

The drivers side appears to be fine and also provides good air flow to the interioir

Not sure what you mean by being able to move the "heat exchanger" with your hand. If you are talking about the Heat Exchanger (ie the header in the exhaust) I would be very worried if I could move this with my hand.

Anyhow, I had all this stuff out in the luggage compartment recently. I would look at the box that switches the right side from floor to windshield. Look at the cables here, there are 2, one on the front, and one on the back. Make sure they are attached and not broken between the lever and the box.

Regards,
Nick.

Nick i was talking about the sheet metal that is wrapped around the pipe what I thought was the exchanger that collects the hot air around the pipes. Whew that sounds confusing to me and I know what I mean.

What is the location of the box that you mention or size and shape. The bentley doesnt cover this!

Remove the luggage compartment carpet and the cover for the heater switchboxes and fan at the rearward wall of the luggage compartment (4bolts). In the center is a round unit with 2 outlets. This is the fan. Attached to these outlets are hoses which run to 2 identical boxes on either side of the fan unit. These boxes have flaps in them that direct the air to the defroster or floor. Attached to the front and back of these units are 2 metal cables clipped to levers which actuate the flaps. Make sure these lever arms move with the cables when you move the levers on the dash. If not, look for disconnected cables or broken(ie it doesnt move when the dash lever is moved).
Hope this helps.
Nick.
