Broken Door Check Arm...Think it can be welded? (pic)
Seems this is not the typical place for the Door Check to break?
![]() I had to grind the pin off in order to get the door to shut when it broke. -very glad that it broke at my Dad's place in Vermont where I had access to a grinder!- I really don't want to take the door panels etc...off again (did it last year) I'm not an experienced welder, so does anyone think it is possible to weld the arm back together? Or is there not enough access? too close to the rubber seals? TIA

Don't need to weld anything if that is the only damaged part. That piece bolts into the door and is replaceable.
Here's your part: 911-531-957-00-M260 Pelican sells them of course.

But if I can weld it, it will save me the trouble of taking off the door panel and $33...Or is it more trouble to weld?

it will probably just break again. you would need to grind off most of the weld to get it to slide properly. 1/2 hour and it's replaced with a new one.

anything CAN be welded, but some things SHOULDN'T be. if it was an irreplaceable part then weld or fab new plate, in this case replacement is easy and cheap. just my canadian $.02 ( about $.018 US), so really practically worthless. Don.

Find something that you like about taking the door panel off, and think about that the whole time. You'd need to take it out to get a good weld all around it, and the sparks would damage the surrounding paint and rubber if you left it in anyway.
I'd go with a used door stay or switch the driver's side one to the passenger side, and put the new one on the driver's side (higher wear on the driver's side). But then, that means taking off two door panels.... |

I welded mine on my 77 Targa..BUT..I had door panel off, took out door check, spent about an hour grinding, welding, grinding again, filing, fitting,blah,blah,blah..Do what John and everyone else says, buy a new one. I did it because I love a challange and I am cheap...
