Is an alignment/corner balance necessary after installing new sway bars?
Planning on upgrading my SC sway bars to Carrera sways. Is an alignment necessary afterwards?

Well since that is settled, I kind of have a question.
I noticed that the '87 3.2s have thicker torsion bars and roll bars along with wider rear wheels. Has anyone actually driven both, and can anyone compare the handling of the earlier 3.2 with softer rear suspension to the later 3.2s with supposedly harder suspension? Is there enough of a difference that you can feel, like a 9/10ths or so? |
I have two 3.2's, and they are night and day different, due mostly to the stiffness of the suspension and weight loss on the track car. The daily driver feels like driving a yacht after a couple of laps in the track car.

Zoanas, I understand the effect of lightening your car.
Can you post the suspension settings, and torsion bar diameters, sway bar diameters? I'm thinking about going to an '87 setup myself, just wondering if it's worth it and what the handling would be like. |
The 'official' reason for the increase in rear bar size for the 87+ Carreras is the addition of the G50 transaxle. It is noticeably heavier then the 915 tranny.

That makes sense. I wonder if the 1mm larger diameter makes a difference? I don't want to go too stiff on the rear torsion bars and end up with too much weight transfer. I think I'll mess around with alignment settings first. You'd think they would have increased the brake cylinder diameter too then, similar to the 911SC to 3.2 Carrera setup. |
