New muffler question

I did a search but could not find anything on this topic.

I bought a used Bursch muffler and finally got it on the car. I heard on on a 69 coupe and liked the sound. It took 2 weeks of heat/penetrating oil to get those bolts off. So This morning (20 deg on concrete is not fun) I finished bolting it on and was going to drive it to work. I decided not to drive it for this reason.

I am leary about supporting the entire muffler on the 12 heat exchanger studs. Is there any method to secure the muffler to the engine or chassis? The stock system had the two bands to help support the weight. There's got to be another way. Let me know what you have done. Thanks

Jamie

You can place a muffler hanger clamp at the point where the tail pipe (outlet) meets the muffler, as close to the muffler body as possible. Use a rubber muffler srap and mount the other end to the bumper bracing. You may have to fabricate a mount for that end of it. All cars are a little different.

Sounds good. supportive and vibration damping at the same time. I will add that to the list of things to do this weekend.

I could not resist. I took out the car yesterday to hear the new muffler. I really like the sound, smmoth not too loud, but did not like one thing. the car does not seem to accelerate like it did before the muffler. It does not have that Raw power feeling. BTW, the motor is enlarged 2.2(not sure on the size, it was not listed in the receipt of rebuild from PO) with webers, E cams and is still pulling when the needle goes into the redzone.

I am not sure if the stock exhaust is the best. I would not think a change in backpressure would affect the carbs like an injected system. Maybe I will put the stock system back on to compare. Any suggestions?

I've been experimenting with differrent mufflers on my 3.0 CIS motor. I've swapped in three different ones and even capped one side to see about noise and power changes.

One thing I have noticed, the power band is smoother and the cams coming on is not as noticeable. But there IS more power, however it is on the top end....when I cap one side of a dual outlet, I find more bottom end...

Hope that helps.
