Front Bumper Guard Removal on 72T
I'm considering removing the bumper guards from my 1972 911T Targa. My understanding was that Porsche only used these bumper guards on U.S. cars because of "safety" standards. Is this the case?
What's the easiest way to get these bumper guards off the vehicle? I would assume that the rubber bumper trim will have to be replaced because it won't exist in the small sections under the guards. |

I believe both US and European versions of the cars had the bumperettes, with the possible exception of the oversized rubber ones offered in 1973 to (almost) meet new impact legislation.
I'd suggest penetrating oil on the nuts. A good source for the exterior trim is Doc 'n' Cy's in Indiana. I think our esteemed host only sells a full car's worth of trim at a time. I like the no-bumperette look most of all, but I also kind of like the earlier, smaller chrome bumperettes with no rubber on them. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe |
