Wife problems. Torn between 2 lovers. Help !

A few months back I bought my dream car, an 84 Cab. When I brought my newly adopted kid home, I could see the look on my wife’s face, “We don’t need a third car”. Recently, I dropped my wife’s car off at the mechanics for a fuel leak. My mechanic told me the parts needed to be special ordered and the car would be ready in 4-5 days. Soon I was home contemplating life’s greatest question, who was going to drive the Porsche? Since I drive a raised Ford F-350 Crew Cab 4 x 4 and my wife being 5’00, 100 lbs I knew I was not going to win this argument. With a wicked smile her face she turned the ignition and was soon backing out of the garage. I felt like I was having an out-of-body experience while sitting on the front porch watching her drive away and at the same time listening for any grinding of the gears. God, I was going to miss her (the Porsche). It was like your dog being taken to the pound by the dogcatcher. The day seemed to go by sooooo slow. Then out of the blue I heard that familiar whistling sound of my girl as my wife was rounding the corner to come home. I ran out to the garage and ran my hand across her firm, smooth, glassy body and at the same time looking for blemishes. I breathed a sigh of relief when I found out she was ok, at least for today. This was going to be a long week I thought…..#$%#@ .. My wife got out of the car and said to me she loved it !!! She went on to say she was going to pick up her friend Kelly tomorrow and go shopping. I quickly asked her if I could go and that I would drive the truck and pick up Kelly. Shopping sucks, but I would be a martyr for my girl. I was amazed on the change of heart my wife had towards my girl…I knew then life as I knew it was going to change and now my secret relationship was over….How do you guys out there deal with this ? I think I need a little Prozac to treat my depression. : ) Good luck to all !!!!

I'm sure they make competition clutch kits that few persons in the 100# weight category can push. Stiffer torsion bars and especially, stiff sway bars with those rude plastic bushings, and sport shocks. Competition exhaust.

HUGE tires (this makes the steering wheel a BEAR to turn when not moving). Okay I'm out of ideas, but I think you're screwed. Just give up and take her to autocross with you, she'll have a BLAST.

Boy does that bring back memories. Separation anxiety compounded by betrayal and jealousy. I remember the first time I let my girlfriend drive my car alone. I just had to keep telling myself to go to the happy place and think happy thoughts. When she returned, she was grinning from ear to ear. She excitedly reported " Wow, you really get a lot of attetion when you're a girl driving a red Porsche!" And then "I like diving it a lot more when you're not in the car!" Ouch, that hurt! But then she explained, " I'm not so nervous about making a mistake shifting and I'm a lot more relaxed." OK, that made sense. Then I started to wonder why it was that "I" didn't seem to get much attention in a red Porsche. BTW, the best way to resolve the little problem is to buy her her own Porsche. End of problem!

Great story!
It's pretty hard to get the keys from my grip. I'll let Mum drive it around the block, so I can see how *****en it looks when it's being driven, even if she stalls it every so often.
I'll let my wife (whom I'm reconciling with these days) drive it, but she's into her Mazda Tribute.
Thankfully, the wife is an aerospace engineer, doesn't have any friends, doesn't really go shopping much, and doesn't like the clutch much (too hard).
Yippy!
Oh, the the Pelican folks are welcome to test drive it anytime.

I've been through two wifes and still have my Porsches. Neither has EVER driven them with me in the car and DAMN sure not without me. My "current" wife (number#2) has brought it up however, and I just tell her "Look where it got my first wife" !! I do occansionally let her "ride" in it though.

I used to let my girlfriend take my car whenever she wanted. Then we had a discussion about checking oil. She was not concerned and said if her car blew up, it blew up it was a piece of crap. I explained it was a matter of principle and still she would not check oil. We got into a huge fight over it. She said my car was different but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. Then she said some things like, "this car is wasted on you" for not passing somebody in the rain. I got pretty leary. She can wreck her own damn car. She's been in it once since then. I love her but most of them just don't think like we do.

My fiancee once had the 3.0 Carrera '76 for her a whole week. I wasn't even there to "supervise" how she did with it. After this week I had to hire a hit man to get the keys back ;-) . The fate was sealed. Now SHE has to be careful not to let the keys of her 3.3 Turbo unwatched. Oh well, she can take the Carrera and try to catch me...
To each his own.

Your problem is that you look at your Porsche as your secret girlfriend. Do what I do; think of the situation as a threesome. This way you can just sit back and admire your lovers' sexiness. I would love it if my girlfriend wanted to drive the Porsche. I would get off on that, I really would.

Fun guy,

It seems like having a wife that actually likes the 911 would be a much more likable situation than having one that resented the car and every penny you spend on it! The emotion you seem to be describing is usually the one attributed to the typical jealous side of a relationship, and not entirely a good thing to see.

How about a 'shared' car, rather than one that has to be declared 'mine' or 'hers'? And, what about Super's idea of taking her to an autocross where both of you enter? Not to get competitive with her, but for her to get more familiar with the car's limits and capabilities in a safe arena under controlled circumstances ... and to alleviate some of your 'protectiveness' about what she might do to it. I have seen some very good drivers, that happen to be women, at autocrosses in 911s, Corvettes, and even Hondas! And, I happen to think driving in autocrosses makes them better drivers, and much less likely to ever lose control of the car or have it 'surprise' them at an inopportune moment!

I really think you are in a lucky situation, rather than one like RJ's, and there is no real need to be complaining or having to think about getting a second 911 for 'yourself' ... at this point, anyway!

So you are from the Bay area, eh? So your neighbors probably have his and his Porsches then. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Wife is out to the movie right now in Porsche with girlfriends (Tom Hanks--no thanks). Top in trunk. Girls gotta have fun too--clutches (even Porsches) much cheaper than alimony attorney fees community property etc, etc.

Damn Warren, open the garage door when the car is running! I think you're getting a little light headed. SHARE a car with a female? Only if you don't mind sitting in old french fries and listening to God-knows-what on the radio. My wifes butt has never even seen the passengers seat of my car. I currently have five vehicles, one is for her, one is for the family (her), and the other three we don't talk about. Maintenance and cleaning is another full time job for me. Females generally don't care about anything but point A to B and looking good while getting there. Oil and gass are things you cook with. I'd be home pissing myself if she took the car.
