Question anyone know this car?

hey
here is the link.
http://www.midwestperformancecars.com/inventory_detail.php?id=181&num_images=15.5&firstImage=images/imagesForId181/01.JPG.jpg

it looks extremely nice.
The thing that scares me about the 79 SC is why it has sat for at least 6 months ( i saw it on ebay in Oct 06). the price seems decent (but i could get better than the $17.5k he is asking) , it is right what both books i have checked say and much nicer looking than most SCs i have looked at. I am still wondering if it was tracked hard (motor rebuild at 54k seems low, clutch at 60k)...

so what is the opinions on mid-west, and on the car?

thanks
Nick

Almost 60 HP more than a US car? Pretty optomistic , silver on cork seems very unusual, I like it but that might have something to do with it not selling previously. As far as the car being tracked they wouldn't have gotten to use much of that 238 Hp with a ride height like that, but I would be curious about the early motor and clutch "rebuild". If it's a sorted out car 15k out the door is ok.

Why it hasn't sold faster?..17.5K is too much for an SC.

Sounds like a bunch of crap to me. 238HP?? Right.....

Looks clean from the pics but that is about it. I gotta laugh at it being rare, I have owned 2 euro 79 SC's.....

Cheers

looks good but car has prob been tracked. Notice aircon has been pulled, Heater blower has been pulled, Air Pump has been pulled. Strut brace installed and a useless extinguisher under the front hood. It does have sport seats though which mine has also and they ROCK!! all you have to do is dye the inside of the car BLACK!
All in all i like it!!! (i am very biast towards Silver SC's) but silver and cork..

Different horses.......

I couldnt comment on price as i live in Australia and its a different market here.
You will love silver though!

my old euro sc had cams, headers, and dual supertrapps
car made 199.7 at the rear wheels
while not insane power when the supertrapps were uncorked the car made sounds that were incredible, also set off alot of car alarms

Take tons of detail pictures, get leakdown and compression #'s from a reputable shop, etc. and folks here will give you a somewhat informed idea of condition. Absent that you are getting WAGs.

Non-sunroof, silver, euro, SC. All good things. If you are looking for exactly that it can be a semi-tough combo to find!

Documentation on engine rebuild at 54k? Why so early?

The dyno remark sounds like regurgitation from some book or other advertisement and not actual dyno results.

The full polish wheels, strut brace and extinguisher location along with the fact that the car is being sold by a dick-me-dan car lot all conspire to take away from the car for me. Others might feel different.

I dont know if I would buy that, its missing the directional vacuuming on the carpets and there isn't any tire shine on the engine components. However he did take the pictures in a garage with a fancy sign and other "Porshahs" in the background so it must be good.

i'm looking for people with a critical eye to point out potential issue with the car, not smartie pants responses

my opinion on the rebuild is that unless you have good documentation it didn't happen. That applies to ANY rebuild.

'Rebuild' means 'reseal' to some folks or 'valve job' to others. No way of knowing without documentation.

As to why it was so early i dunno.

Beretta, I agree and disagree. My engine early 911 engine is all brand new. Much of it is NOS parts. I have zero receipts, I could probably get them from the shop that built it but I don't have them. However, one look or a drive and you will know it. What I suggest on this car is to take a personal look and drive. You'll know if its off or if it runs strong. If it passes the runs strong test its more often than not a good engine. One thing is to make sure you ask the seller to show you the car stone cold. This way you can see if it smokes when cold.
