Question about resetting Odometer
 

I currently have the 85mph speedo in my SC, and I'm going to pick up a replacement from an 85 Carrera. My question is, if I remove the face of the gauge, can I just adjust the milage on the odometer by hand, or is it more complicated? I just want to match the mileage of the gauge I'm taking out of my car.

ooh, I know guys who have done time for that! No kidding. Check the laws in your state. You may have to have certification to do that legally.

Not sure, but I think legally, there is no penalty on cars as old as ours. I yanked out the factory km/h speedo and installed a newer mph speedo with only 6K miles on it.

As long as one doesn't represent the mileage as factual, I don't believe there is any fraud.

Sorry, I don't know how to set the mileage. North Hollywood speedo could do it for you.

Legalities and title work aside, it is a very easy process.
There is a shaft the runs through the gears. slide to the left spin the gears slide back. I took pic of my old speedo and the new one with the change or adjustment to the proper mileage.

The worse part is removing the bezel which is covered in the pelican tech forum.

Yeah, you can roll 'em forward just fine - it's the rolling them back that will get you in dutch. Take the before/after pics and no one should give you any grief.

You guys are right. After posting, I realized that my car is "mileage exempt" here in Florida. And it's an '86.

I was thinking about some dealers in Tennessee that got busted, one twice, for rolling back mileage. And my brother in NY had to register with the state to convert Canadian speedos to miles.

i'm going to take plenty of pictures. as well, the dmv has all the mileage documented at registration intervals, so as long as it remains consistent...

i just want the new odometer reading to be the same as my current odometer. i'm trying to be the good guy, right?

I rolled mine back to zero zero zero zero zero etc. after my "restoration." Figured nobody would actually believe that a 1983 911SC could have done that kind of mlleage. I tell people that the number showing is actually after twice around the dial, so who can get upset?

does anyone know the sequence for wiring a 1977 911s 150mph speedo?
took mine out for replacement and forgot how to rewire. it seems straight forward but i don't want to screw anything up. mine is not colored coded as in my manuals. anyone?? possibly a pic?
