aerodynamics question
What do you guys suggest for a front spoiler?? When I installed the tail on my car I began to notice differences in handling on the highway, especially when it's windy... My front valance does not have any kind of spoiler.. I've been looking at some new front valances that appear to be more aerodynamic than my stock one.. Does it matter which one I choose??
Here's a pic of my tail.. Pete 77'Carrera3.0 ------------------ www.geocities.com/pcafaro2000/carrera30.html |

Uh, that's a pretty radical angle for the tail. Your highway handling might smooth out a little if you lowered the decklid and latched it down.

A popular upgrade is to use the spoiler off an 84 to 89 coupe. With no front spoiler, your steering must be getting light at high speed, no?

Thanks for the insight Jack...
89911, are you referring to the rubber chin spoiler?? To answer your question, the steering does get light at high speeds.. Pete 77'Carrera3.0 ------------------ www.geocities.com/pcafaro2000/carrera30.html |

Here is a pic. I was referring to the entire assembly. It is a popular upgrade for older 911's because of the number of them out there. This was the standard front spoiler that came with the rear tail. Try www.partsheaven.com. With the air getting force below your car from the front and the rear tail forcing you backend down, I could imagine your front getting light. Did you ever see those speed boats when they get some air under there hull? Just joking.

I see what I was talking about.. That stiff rubber lip attached to the bottom of your valance.. My valance is identical with the exception of that rubber lip and fog lights..
That little piece of rubber costs approx. $300!!! That's why I've been looking at some of the newer fiberglass bumpers.. Thanks for the input.. Pete |

Will the front spoiler shown above fit a SC? Is the only difference between the stock SC front valance and that one the location of the fog lights? Mine hang down in front of the sheetmatal.
Thanks, Tom |

Yes, it is just a bolt on affair.

Here is what may not be clear from above: The rubber lip does not just bolt onto the SC valence. I believe the Carrera valence is set several inches forward of the SC valence, so the Carrera rubber lip probably does not fit onto the SC valence.
There are several beautiful noses to choose from, all of which functionally are trying to keep air from getting under the car. The SC valence is too far back to do this well. ------------------ '83 SC |

Its been a long time since I thought about these but the lip in that picture sure looks identical to the one that came oem on my '76 Carrera 3.0, which has the same valance as the 78-83 SC's. Superman is correct that the early valance is set further back than the later ones as used on the 3.2 liter Carreras. It would be interesting to see if there is a difference though. Mine is out in the loft of my barn i'll see if there is a part # on it.

I was referring to the entire spoiler assembly and not just the rubber lip.

Even with many f/g front ends you will want a rubber lip. I have a BW Motorsports f/g bumper cap with a genuine Ruf lip.
