Wanted lightweight 901 flywheel or leads to find a new one.

I recall there was a seller on ebay for these but dont recall for sure. Anyone have one for sale. Or know where to get a new one ? A friend of mine asked me to help find one for his 914/6 autox car.

Kurt Williams

Do you mean the 906-style flywheel ?:

Member OliveR has them at SG Racing in Belgium:

I also think Patrick Motorsports offer something similar.

Here's the story I heard. Someone here in the states (Henry?) had developed a flywheel with a Chinese manufactor. This manufactor then went on to sell these unfinished to other vendors outside of original agreement. So caution on random vendors selling these as they may not be QC'd very well.

I'd check: Pelican, Supertec, Patrick Motorsports

Yes it sucks when that happens. And they get away with it because they are outside the states and our laws. I will ask Henry on monday.
Thanks,

Kurt Williams

I have a light weight assembly and cannot recommend it on the early cars. It makes for a less smooth idle at 900 but at 1000 it does idle smooth. Also, engine revs up like a sport bike but you lose a bit of low end torque. I have a very torquey setup with my modifications and my solex cams but I don't know if you will be that happy with it.

You might contact Mike Bruns at JB Racing http://www.jbracing.com. They do lightweight flywheels, not sure about the applications.

Call Allan at Aase motors. We have about 7 of his aluminum pressure plates in use. They are servicable also meaning you can use them a long time.

Yes, IP protection is still a big issue when dealing with China specifically, and Asia in general, not to mention a host of other issues. Especially as a small business. It can be made to work, but it's not for the feint of heart or resources. A couple of thoughts...

1) Disguise the use of whatever product you're having made to make it very difficult for the asian sub-con to find other buyers.

2) Get the raw components there and then have them final processed at a secure supplier elsewhere.

3) Wait for them to have enough IP themselves that they realize it is a good idea to protect it...

Letsee -- How long is it going to take a culture of 1.3 billion people to learn the value the intellectual property that they haven't had the opportunity to learn already in the last 3700 years???

That's certainly a safe strategy, but you'll be long dead, with your competitors already firmly entrenched in the huge Chinese market by the time that happens.

Try Kennedy Engineered Products in Palmdale, CA. I've used them for 30 years. They do MANY conversion flywheels and are in many cases cheaper than oem/used or other manufacturers. They also supply the right TO bearing, clutch and pressure plate. I've had them cut a larger clutch face for bigger discs.

I wouldn't buy warm spit from Patrick Motordorks.
