I just replaced my alternator outer pully half. Now the alternator light comes on when I start the car. While it idles the light flickers lightly, but after the car has been running a while, the light goes out. Do I need to move shims to tighten the belt or is this the beginning of an alternator replacement?? Cheers, Mike.

Do a search.
Lots of info on correct tension for the belt. Also, make sure that the spacers are sitting correctly on the shoulder of the shaft. If not, the pulley will wobble.
