NJ Inspection for 1983SC?

Hello:

I'm finally the proud owner of a 1983 911SC as of this weekend. My car is a very original SC, but came from the previous owner with a Bursch testpipe currently installed.

I have the original cat and heat shield, but was wondering if anyone has any experience with inspection in NJ. The car is not yet emissions exempt (must be 25 yrs or more). Appreciate any guidance from the community.

Also -- anyone have any recommendations on a good place to take it for inspection (N. NJ/Montclair area)? Based on past experience, I'd like to take it to a private shop.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Rob

I have my car regisitered as a 'Collector Car'. There is no emissions testing. Actually, I was a bit shocked because the only thing they test is the odometer! They give you a triangular window sticker..which hasn't been a magnet for the cops. Re-inspection is the typical every two years deal and runs15 or 20 bucks. The catch is I'm only allowed to drive it 3000 miles a year. QQ plates are very restrictive..1200 miles /year, to and from shows and no night time driving.

I just passed last week with my stock 82SC. I took it to the Wayne state inspection. I did initially fail for a leaking gas cap but passed all other items. I bought a new aftermarket plastic gas cap and passed on the second go through.

I was surprised how good the emiisions were with an all original stock cat converter. The car has 68K miles. All the numbers were 1/4 of the standard to pass.

Give it a try there first.
