Door Won't Open

I started down this path thinking that the plastic socket on the power door mechanism was all that needed to be replaced since the lock on the driver's side was not working. After taking the panel off, I founds that the latch mechanism was bound, although I could not see why. I tried everything I could to get it to move, with no luck. I finally resolved to take the window frame out and remove the mechanism, which is when my problems REALLY began. I was unable to loosen the frame from the door after removing all of the allen bolts and decided to put it all back together and drop by my friendly mechanic in the morning. I reinstalled the bolts and shut the door, only to find that the door did not shut all the way. I tried to open it and could not! I think the window frame is out of alignment causing the door to be stuck half unlatched. Any suggestions on how to move it, without doing further damage? I was tempted to post this on "admit your stupidity" but decided at this point I need more help than laughs. The car in question is an '86 coupe.
