911 losing brake fluid
Hi, can anyone tell me or has anyone had this problem, i had some problems with the brake master cylinder on my 2.7 1976 911 , so i put a new cylinder on and i had some brakes again, but now i seem to lose fluid very slowly though the fluid bottle overflow pipe ,which runs down the wing to the outside of car . brakes are ok , but just lose fluid very slowly, has anyone any ideas, thanks Rik...

Taking the risk of being simplistic......possibly you just have the reservoir overfilledl?

I agree with Mike, if the reservoir was overfilled and the overflow tube has fluid in it, it will continue to drip for quite a while. Mine began to leak due to autocross and the resulting sloshing. I replaced the long, downward sloping overflow tube with a short hoop; open end facing up with a cotton swab "filter" in the open end.

Hi, yeh, i thought i might have overfilled the bottle, but fluid seems to keep coming out of pipe when it,s on the level, i,m scared of long trips ,in case fluid level goes below min and i lose the brakes.

Has the fluid actually dropped below minimum in the reservoir?
If it hasn't, it probably is just overfilled. Even if you had a leak somewhere, you shouldn't lose fluid through the overflow... Anyway, I had a leak on the reservoir a while back, which caused me to lose fluid in the reservoir - but obviously not through the overflow.

I have the same problem with my 77 911. A couple of years ago I replaced the brake lines- before this the fluid level in my reservoir never varied, always kept it at the screen level. After the brake line replacement I noticed that the level was dropping, very slowly. Checked the brakes lines, all dry, no signs of leaking. I replaced my almost 30 year old MC last winter and still had the same problem last summer? Jerry

Check how the tube is routed in the airstream. Air passing over it may be causing a venturi effect sucking fluid out of the resevior. I've seen this before.
Fixed by routing the overflow tube into a bottle instead of overboard.

I went to HF and bought some of these BF bleeding containers. They have a magnet built in to attach to nearby sheet metal during the bleeding process. I used one to hold overflow from the MC reservoir. However, I needed a stronger magnet to attach to a nearby bracket.
