fuel cosumption for SC?
I have a stock 1980 SC. I can go for about 400 kms (250 miles) in city driving on a full tank(is that about 12 mpg?). It seems to be running fine. What can I check that can be causing this kind of consumption?
Thanks |

Vacuum leaks, dirty injectors, bad O2 (here in the U.S.) anyways. Rich running mixture. Fuel pressure too high.
I am sure there are more as the list goes on. Of course I think most get 16-18 M.P.G. city driving. Good luck. Nick Hromyak '85 DME (not CIS) Dad has '80 SC I HAD '73 CIS 2.7 |

14 city. 26 HWY . Heavy foot . Never really tried to conserve! Original road tests talked in the 16-18 range in the city. I guess that was before they got broken in!!!!!

My SC does better on gas than my Chevy truck. So the way I look at it is that I am saving fuel by driving the SC as much as possible
![]() Seriously, on the open road I get about 18-20 MPG. City I not too sure, but I guess 14-16. It is amazing how many brand new cars cannot even manage to do that well. I have two good friends with SUVs and they both report average MPG of 8-12. If I were really concerned with fuel ecconomy I would be driving a Golf TDI... I think the SC is a better choice. ------------------ Adrian Pillow 1979 911 SC 1966 VW Microbus PCA - Peachstate Chapter |
