Evap. blower motor
I am re-working my a/c and have the entire evaporator box out of the car.
The a/c blower has always been kind of noisy - especially on high speed. So, I figured I would buy a new motor. Plus, new parts makes me happy. :) Then, I checked the price. $300+ (p/n 911-624-899-00-M100) . Yikes. Is there another, or better, solution for this? That seems mighty expensive for a small electric motor. Thanks, Skip |
Upon further inspection...
Could the noise I'm hearing be caused by an ever-so-slightly out of balance fan vibrating the plastic evap housing against the smugglers box? Is this common? How does one go about balancing the fan. It appears to have balancing weights attached to it. Should/could I just add some foam to the outside of the evap housing for insulation? Also, with the motor out, hand spinning the motor, I can almost, just barely, maybe, hear/feel a squeak. Should I replace the motor? When I run the motor, I hear no squeak. Are these "serviceable"? Thanks, Skip |
Skip, you can try oiling the motor bearing surfaces with a light machine oil. Turn it over a bit and see if that smooths it out. Then test run the motor to see if that quiets it down. You can also look and see how much life you've got left on the motor brushes.
Agreed that these blower motors all over our cars are silly expensive. On that point, however, you can post a wanted to buy in the parts section. Lots of guys have or will strip their cars of AC so used evaporator blowers are easy to come by. Brian |
