Puzzle for you. Please help!
 

I have an 85' 911. After a recent valve adjustment the engine has been running REALLY ruff. For the last 3 months after the valve adjustment, it would not start! I checked for spark and fuel. Both seem to be ok. I read in one of the forums to shoot Starter fluid into the AFM to start the car. THAT WORKED! The car started, but ran just as ruff. I let it sit for 2 more days, and it would not start again. I used the starter fluid again, and again it started. What could be my problem? I replaced the wires, distributor, and distributor rotor. New battery. I also checked the injectors (all were fine) I don't have a clue!

Valves set too tight so they are not closing all the way - you have no compression dude!

is it a reputable wrench? would you trust him to go back in to fix it?
you can readjust it yourself, just study the process before you jump in, it'll make you more "one" with your 911 :)

I was thinking about that. It just seems a little intimadating. I may try anyway. My first thought is that I paid $400 for a serivice that is not complete. Yes, he is a reputable wrench who is probably a pelicanite. He continues to tell me, "if he messed up a valve adjustment after 30 years of being a wrench, he should go out of business."

Soo, what do you think...me or him?

Maybe a vacuum leak? Does the idle slow down when you remove the oil cap?

You could also check compression wet and dry. If they are the same, you have the problem I mentioned.

I wonder how effective the 'wet' method is on a flat 6...

Gogar-rough idle when the oil cap comes off means you don't have a vac leak.
