What is a Porsche 909......???
A collegue brought his old car magazines from 1969, 1970 and 1971. Interesting for me since I was born 1975. I found a Porsche 909, but there's no picture. It should have an aircooled (naturally) engine. 8 cylinders and 275 hp at 9000 rpm. Bodywork type: Spider. 5 speed gearbox and 250 km/h topspeed.
If one of you guys happen to have a picture online please post it here. I know the 908 and the 910, but no 909. |

It was a 'Hillclimb' car, possibly the 'Bergspyder' or the 'Kangaroo' ... and there is certainly info and pics in Paul Frere's The Racing Porsche's, which may be at a library. The engine was a later development of the Formula 1 engine following Dan Gurney's single win in that category as factory driver, but never was updated to MFI, pending the successful development of the 906E and 908 engines ...

Damn, Warren...is there ANYTHING you don't know about Porsches? You da man. BY the way, how're the plans for the BBQ going? I'm working on my gas-powered maragrita blender as we speak.

To follow on Warren's path, it was the Bergspyder. It was scary light, about 450 Kg, and it ended in a ravine during a race, where it's magnesium, titanium and beryllium chassis burned to a twisted hulk. The story has it someone bought the remains to restore (recreate) the car, but nothing has happened. There will not be many pics of the car around. Probably some info in Jurgen Barth's books.
