add oil cooler??
My 74 S did not come with a cooler. I intitialy thought of buying one of those finned oil return hoses that PEL sells but no one woul endorse it, so I acquired a trombone cooler cheap ($100) I can get lines for about $200 but it appears that unless the car had an oil cooler there is still hardware missing. Can someone provide a picture of where these lines to the motor go ---or a diagram?
Thanks much BTW, if you are interested ----to keep the engine cool the builder put in really rich jets in the webers. I wondered why the plugs were fouling.!

cooler
let me see if I can answer my own question. Is there a line that comes out of the forward part of the engine by the valve cover, that attaches to the oil line which goes to the oil cooler and then returns via a line that takes it into the oil cooler as in the attached photo?

The PO of my car installed the Carrera-type oil cooler and my car never goes over 190 degrees, even driving it in 85 plus degrees in slow-moving traffic in FL a few weeks ago. You'll be glad you installed the oil cooler and the engine will thank you for it!

I have a 74
I have a 74 and it didnt come with a front oil cooler either. I got the extra large MOCAL oil cooler for the front left fender from BAT INC.
I first started with the trombone but I was not happy enough with the performance. So I got the MOCAL and I am very happy with it. Make the investment your engine will be very happy with you. Chris

+1 for any cooler that is better than the trombone. Follow the PET diagram and track down the various lines--74's have a different position for the hard line from the engine to the external thermostat (which you'll need.) $200 sounds very cheap for the lines you'll need to run a front cooler of any kind--if you do get them all (check the diagram) for $200, then run like a thief cuz you got a deal!--the thermostat alone will run more than that, used.
By the way, an external cooler will be the best friend your engine ever had. Try to get one with the most efficient cooling. Larry
