need help with weber crankcase venting please
I'm getting a lot of oil blowing out the filter. hose runs from breather housing to oil tank. then hose, maybe 6" long, from tank to breather filter. compression is good, 185 psi across the board. I was trying to clean up po maze of hoses. I really don't know how to route the hoses. do I need an oil trap of some sort? any input or pics would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Don.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174789204.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1174789239.jpg

You can try adding a catch can with the filter on top to catch the oil. They are available from various sources. I got mine from Summit racing.

Here's what I've done with mine. Found on Ebay, added drain pipe, made Al bracket to hold in place. Lou

The drain valve and hose is an excellent idea. In addition, many catch cans have an external tube to monitor the liquid level, or use a translucent catch bottle.

Don,
There is a conical restrictor piece that fits in the breather hose at the oil fill. It restricts the flow and tends to separates the oil from the gasses. I’ll see if I can find the P/N. It is from late SCs and Carrera. All of the above suggestions are worthwhile. Best, Grady |
I'd also suggest a leakdown test just to confirm your compression numbers are an accurate reflection of engine condition.

thanks Grady! I would appreciate that.
Steve, my leakdown is 2-3% across the board so I don't think I'm getting excessive blowby. Don. |
