Boge to Koni front stut swap, advice please.
Dear all,
While doing the rounds of Porsche breakers (wreckers), I found someone selling the front Koni struts from a '74 RS Carrera. They were in great condition so I bought them. My car is a '76 2.7S fitted with Boge struts. My calipers are the ATE 'A' cast iron caliper as fitted to the SC's etc. The strut was designed for the earlier aluminium 'S' caliper. The breaker is convinced they will go straight on. The caliper mounts line up OK, but the shield plate fouls the caliper. Shall I use the old Boge shield plate or shall I just omit the shield completely? I can't actually see what the shield plate does, the brakes might actually run cooler without it. Is the dealer correct, are the calipers interchangeable or will I experience some problems due to different caliper offset perhaps? I've done some measurements & I think it's OK but I need the nod from someone who really knows what they are talking about (Warren?). Thanks in advance, JG |

Go ahead and reuse the Boge splash shield. And, yes, the 'A caliper is directly interchangeable with the 'S' caliper!

Thanks Warren, I knew you would have the answer.
Can anyone tell me what the shield plate does, apart from increasing the unsprung weight? JG |

If you ever intend to take your
911 to the track, leave off the shield plates. Your brakes will be cooler without it and hence last longer before fading.... Bill 72T my 911 does not have them anymore |
