What is under the passenger seat?

In my 82 SC, (bought as roller), There is a large electrical connection there, but nothing to connect it to. What is supposed to go there?

On my '85, there was nothing under the passenger seat. My Rod Birch-installed amp is now there; the electrical connection you see could be left over from an old stereo installation.

Can't speak to the jetronic - I thought that and the DME were under the driver's seat.

You will be needing the Motronic DME unit that goes under the driver's seat.

okay cool, that comes with the engine, along with the harness, so that is taken care of.

okay - now I'm confused. I have an '82 with the big connector under the pass seat as well. But this is no roller...it's my daily driver and other than poofing for a couple miles on startup it runs like a dream. How can that be without this "Jetronic" thing?

Relax, it's o.k.
There are 3 things under the pass. seat in your '82 SC:
The OXS Control Unit (The brain for the Lambda),
The Acceleration Enrichment Control Unit added in '81-'82,
And the relay powered by the same fuse as the dome light to run the Lamda brain.
If the car ever runs real crappy in idle, check the fuse for the dome light, the same fuse is necessary to run the Frequency Valve.
The whole unit is often forgotten and neglected and gets rusty.
Carefully remove the relay, clean the pins and use dielectric grease to put it back together.
Carry a spare relay.

in_style:
You can remove the whole unit from the roller and sell it if it's good.
Also, does your roller still have the Bosch CDI module on the left side of the engine compartment?

Do you have an older or Euro CIS system in your 82? You can tell pretty easily by the absence of the frequency valve.

Thanks Gunter! - I have nothing but connectors under the pass seat. No box, no relays, nothing. Dome light works fine. Car runs fine at idle (great actually) once it's warmed up. I'm thinking (and this is on another thread called "Which CIS do I have") that the guy that put my motor together backdated my CIS to pre O2 sensor version, but I don't know how to tell.

Scott R - how do I tell if I have the Frequency valve? Pardon my newness to this CIS stuff...I'm reading posts as fast as I can without my boss or my wife getting annoyed...

I replied to your other thread.
Check the diameter (O.D.) of the intake runners. Those are the silver pipes coming from the airbox going to the top of the heads.
If they are 47.5 mm, someone changed the CIS using an earlier '78-'79 system which doesn't have the Frequency Valve.
That's o.k. except I don't know if Aircare is happy with that.
Without the Lambda brain, the OX sensor or CAT isn't doing anything.
Someone made some changes and a Porsche mechanic can tell right quick what was done.
