Send out for cad plating or paint myself....

So my rebuild distributor just came in today (thanks motoparts! $150 well spent) and i have the following to do before firing my baby up after a long winter:
1-rebuild 2nd carb (2hrs at most)
2-install dizzy and carbs
3-tune up and GO!

Here is the issue i have; i spent lunch at a client's using their beadblast machine to clean up some parts from the carbs and the cad plating stripped right off (linkages, large brackets). I now must decide if i want to send the parts out (maybe a 2 week delay) to be replated OR do i just clearcoat them with high temp paint and get her started?

What would you do?

Erik

Oh, and if i do opt to send a batch to the plater it is my understanding that i can send a LOT more than just a couple linkages and brackets and the price would be about the same. So.....wonder what else i could pull for plating?

The hi temp clear coat will get you back on the road quickly but little else. Its not going to stand up to leaking gas for long.

If you plate, take pictures so you'll know where everything went then start disassembling! I have also heard you do buckets of small parts by the pound. I've always wanted to do that. Do a search, one Pelican took an UNBELIEVEABLE amount of stuff to the platers. Very, very nice looking afterward.

Well i sorta expected that was the answer. Talked with the plater and zinc chromate plating is a flat fee of $47 up to 150lbs via bale process. Problem now is i don't have 5lbs of stuff and could probably buy a lot of what i need done for the same money.

I will go home and see what else i can pull off the car!

BTW, if i am still *****ting around with this come May i will need to borrow somebody's 911 for the summer;)

glass beaded stuff will have a rougher texture than parts stripped by dry ice, soda, or chemical if you cad plate them.

Thanks for the tip JW; perhaps a quick polish is in order prior to shipping.
